ACR Convergence 2021: Looking Ahead to the Future of Rheumatology Around the Globe

On this episode, we’re joined by Dr. Laura Cappelli, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Division of Rheumatology and a faculty member of the Johns Hopkins Arthritis Center. Dr. Cappelli is here to give us an overview of her presentation at the 2021 American College of Rheumatology Convergence that focuses on the future of rheumatology around the globe. Here’s Dr. Cappelli now.

Dr. Cappelli:
My upcoming presentation at ACR Convergence global summit that focuses on the future of rheumatology is going to be a really exciting, live, interactive presentation featuring young investigators in rheumatology from all around the world. So, there will be six of us representing different regions of the world and corresponding organizations, such as ACR, EULAR, PANLAR, AFLAR, and APLAR. And we will have a panel discussion to tackle different topics that are relevant for rheumatologists around the world and especially for young investigators and people starting their careers in rheumatology.

Some key take-aways that I hope people will gain from this presentation are an understanding of what research priorities should be for rheumatology going forward and how to facilitate those research efforts around the world. I also want people to understand some of the resource disparities that exist globally for people practicing rheumatology and the patients around the world and how we might combat some of those disparities.

And finally, I hope that the audience will get a sense of what are some of the priorities for the future of rheumatology, especially from the perspective of young rheumatologists and young investigators in rheumatology and what our organizations can do to facilitate our career development and research going forward.
