Dr Mary Leuchars (Callanan) graduated from the medical school of the University of Newcastle NSW, Australia, in 1993. Dr Leuchars completed her internship and residency in her hometown of Sydney at St Vincents Hospital in Darlinghurst, gaining a broad range of experience in surgery, internal and emergency medicine. Pursuing a lifelong love of sports, she then worked in the Australian Ski Fields during the 1996 and 1997 seasons, while studying for the primary examination for the Australia / New Zealand College of Sports Physicians. After working as Team Physician for the North Sydney Rugby Union Club, Sports Medicine Registrar for the Sports Medicine & Shoulder Service at St George Hospital Sydney, Dr. Leuchars participated in the 2000 Sydney Olympics as an on-site physician. During this time she began working as a surgical assistant in the OR, in orthopaedic, plastic and general surgery. Dr Leuchars has worked as a medical consultant in film & TV since 2002. Since completing a Diploma in Film & Television Studies at the Victorian College of Arts in Melbourne, Australia, she has worked on over 8 Australian TV drama series, providing both medical consultancy and on-site medical services. In addition to this she has also worked on a feature film as medical advisor. Dr Leuchars now lives in New York, NY, with her young family, and is pursuing a career in medical journalism.
